Implementation Excellence Survey – Episode 3: Would you be a good Formula 1 team boss?

  • If there is an interesting comparison when examining the capacity for project implementation, it is the F1 Grand Prix. It is concentrated into a very short time, full of accidents, competition and capricious weather, and the demonstration of any professional expertise is subject to the ultimate act of a driver of mechanic. How, at this point, can the team boss control this uncertainty, ambiguity and complexity?

  • During our investigation of implementation excellence you often refer to motor sport and different cultures that together enable excellence in real time: the German importance of preparation and the Italian tactical sense based, primarily, on situation analysis and response capacity.

  • See our record on implementation excellence and take part in the joint reflection that we are spearheading with our key customers on this major issue of project success.

Implementation Excellence Survey – Episode 2: Is a project a goal to be achieved, a collective narrative or a process?

  • Driven by the advent of the principles of total quality, process has become the height of maturity of a collective operation, ensuring repeated performance and continuous improvement. Defined in this way, it applies to everything, including projects. But is the approach really applied to projects? And are the total quality principles really applied to projects?

  • Methods have flourished in business, but our survey on implementation excellence reveals that while applying them improves performance, they impact against the glass ceiling of implementation: what makes the difference between a well-run project and a project that reaches or exceeds its goals? A further consideration: while measurement is key to continuous improvement, another pillar of total quality, project performance measurement, often confused with punctuality, is strangely underdeveloped.

  • See our record on implementation excellence and take part in the joint reflection that we are spearheading with our key customers on this major issue of project success.

Implementation Excellence Survey – Episode 1: Do you go the final yard in your projects?

  • The final yard is where you win the race. Until then taking part may seem like the important thing. This is the case with project management. But implementation is going the final yard. It is the separation of the potential from what is real. What do you think you are missing to go the final yard?
  • Our study into the excellence of implementation has revealed, despite a shared consensus of partial success of each project, despite a few initial shared keywords – customer satisfaction, value creation – that most companies do not have a clear vision, shared between professions, of what really makes the difference between simply managing and implementing.
  • See our record on implementation excellence and join the joint reflection that we are spearheading with our key customers on this major issue of project success.
