With three years of experience at KLB, Jesús Pérez Hernández, Contract Administrator, shares an inspiring testimony about his involvement in a warehouse project in the Oil & Gas sector. Balancing operational rigor, people management, and a strong safety culture, he reflects on the lessons learned from a human-centered leadership built on trust and personal growth.
An experience that drives your professional development
During my three years at KLB, I’ve had the opportunity to take part in various projects that have significantly contributed to my professional growth. However, one of the most rewarding experiences has undoubtedly been the warehouse project at Dos Bocas, which allowed me to deepen my understanding of operational staff management and recognize the importance of maintaining a strong safety culture within a highly demanding industrial environment.
A setting that demands precision and teamwork
This onshore project takes place in a chemical warehouse belonging to a client in the Oil & Gas industry. In this context, every task requires precision, focus, and strict compliance with procedures, as any deviation could create operational or safety risks.Adding to that are the environmental conditions — confined spaces and high temperatures — that call for great discipline and physical effort from the team. These factors highlight the need for close leadership and constant coordination to ensure both safety and efficiency.
A culture of trust and human-centered leadership
One of the aspects I value most about this experience is the direct and ongoing contact with the operational team. Daily visits to the site allowed us to strengthen communication across all operational levels, understand team needs first-hand, and build an environment of mutual trust. This daily interaction has been key to reinforcing the project’s safety culture, sense of belonging, and collective motivation.
The company has played a crucial role by fostering closeness, empathy, and recognition of operational work. This support not only enhances team performance but also strengthens a human approach to talent management, which is essential in technical and demanding settings.
Lessons in leadership and people management
Throughout the project, I have strengthened my leadership and decision-making skills. When operations require quick and effective responses, coordination, experience, and communication become decisive.I’ve learned that leading means showing both understanding and support, while maintaining the firmness necessary to ensure that procedures are followed rigorously. Finding this balance has been one of the greatest lessons from this project.
Taking care of operations — but above all, of people
This project is a tangible example of how technical management and people management must move forward hand in hand.Ensuring material safety and operational standards is essential, but taking care of the people who make the work possible is, without a doubt, the most valuable part.
